Young Harris College’s O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium will present “The Little Star That Could” at 7 p.m. and “Skies Over Georgia” at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 16, as part of a special “Starry Night” program for children and families.

“The Little Star That Could” tells the delightful story of an average yellow star in search of planets of his own. Along the way, he meets other stars, learns what makes each star special and discovers that stars can form clusters and galaxies. Eventually, Little Star finds his planets, and each planet is introduced with basic information about our solar system.

Rollins Planetarium is located in the Maxwell Center on the campus of Young Harris College just 10 minutes east of Blairsville.Featuring a live presenter and using the planetarium’s digital and optical Star Projectors to their fullest, “Skies Over Georgia” is a traditional star show that allows audiences to explore the heavens as they appear above the mountains of north Georgia. Learn how to identify the planets and stars currently visible in the night sky, take a guided tour of the season’s constellations and hear some of their fascinating stories.

Floor Selling Prices

Many buyers offer their home with a floor price in mind — one they think they’re absolutely not willing to go below. It becomes a point of pride in what can be an emotional process… and that can be dangerous.

In the long run, an extra $1,000 (or even $3,000) is a drop in the bucket — whether you’re selling in the north Georgia mountains or in the city… and it’s not worth fighting over, even if it’s below your floor price. But what about an offer that’s $5,000 or even $10,000 below what you were hoping to get?

“Buyers don’t care what your minimum price is,” says Leslie Nichols, a broker for Nichols & Associates Real Estate in Houston. “Price is the most important thing. … Price will overcome location. Price will overcome condition. Price will overcome everything else.”

Before automatically rejecting a low offer, consider a few factors and be brutally honest with yourself. Determine how many months that shortcoming works out to in terms of your regular mortgage and utility expenses. What are the odds you’ll get an acceptable offer in that time period? If they’re not excellent, give the ‘low’ offer a second look.

With a 30 year mortgage hovering around 4.0%… now is the time investors are hunting in the north Georgia mountains for good deals… why not let it be yours they find!

Brasstown Bald Mountain–Blairsville, GA

Brasstown Bald, is Georgia’s highest mountain. It is 4,784 feet above sea level. I had some people come in to our Cozy Cove General Store and they were telling me they had hiked the trail to go see the snow yesterday.  It has a  spectacular 360-degree view from atop the mountain. You can see four states, including Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. This is one of the places you should put on your list of must sees. While you are in that area you should also visit Helton Creek Falls.

Fall Color Update – North Georgia Mountains

This weekend might be the last chance to see the fall colors!

“October 18, 2011: Fall color has really taken off in the last few days in north Georgia. At the highest elevations, the peak color has been reached. Over the next week, the elevational band of peak color will gradually descend into the middle and lower elevations. By the weekend of October 21, peak color will cover 65 to 75% of the Chattahoochee National Forest.”
